Still, I downloaded the Ted Talks app and visited it daily to watch a short video or read a six-minute article on various ideas worth spreading. I watched a short animation about the epic of Gilgamesh there which came in handy when I watched Eternals the other day. (Worth it!)

She looks at me with unwavering resolve, like Daenerys in the final season of Game of Thrones when the city of King’s Landing rings the bells and raises the gates in surrender, and she burns it all to the ground anyway.

The call comes in on a Thursday night. The Indian Ocean is roaring in the background. Some of his words are carried off by the wind but you get the gist of what he’s saying. He’s walking on the beach. He wants you next to him. Be spontaneous. Be adventurous. Take the train. You’ll book […]

*** The series finale for Biker’s Island is still sizzling on the grill. I’m taking my time with it because I know you guys like it juicy and well done and if I serve it medium rare someone will ask to speak to my manager.  All the same, it’s Thursday and while we’re on the […]

I have fragments of stories. Story lines grabbing at the seams of my conscious. Scenes of people, noises, tears, words said with quivering lips, trembling fingers, thick, heavy words that come out in choked voices. Feelings swallowed, that cut their way down the gullet like pellets of glass. But, these fragments aren’t coming together in […]

A few weeks ago I did an interview with Bett Kinyatti of Craft It. She writes stories of Kenyans in their craft. For her miniseries about Nairobi’s creatives that she’s calling Hunt Like a Hungry Lioness, she picked me to start off. One of the questions she asked during my interview, Mixed Signals, was what makes […]

You are tired. Exhausted. Your bones are aching. Your muscles are sore. Your eyes are saltier than sea water but it’s three o’clock in the morning and you can’t sleep – for no reason other than sleep eludes you. You’ve done a yoga for sleep and relaxation routine. You’ve tried deep breathing. You’ve had two […]

Nestled on the slopes of two magnificent hills was a small village built along the banks of a great river that ran through the valley. At the every edge of the village, closest to the forest on the highest parts of the hills lived the oldest man known to the villagers. He was said to […]

Like I mentioned in my last article, “Why We Meet the People We Meet”, I am fan of the many creation stories that exist out there. Many of these stories tell a tale of Source existing in a formless space of darkness. Source had always been there, unencumbered by the constraints of the illusion of […]

When we were little we used to make bets by crossing our pinkie fingers. These bets were binding, social contracts that we honored religiously (especially if they involved morning loaf in boarding school), and are one of my earliest lessons on honor and keeping my word. I’d never questioned why we used our pinkie fingers […]

Once upon no time, there was a little Soul who said to God, “I know who I am.” And God said, “That’s wonderful! Who are you?” And the Little Soul shouted, “I’m the Light!” God smiled a big smile. “That’s right!” God exclaimed. “You are the Light.” The Little Soul was so happy, for it […]

He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. Matthew 5:45 If the world worked the way we expected it to, we’d have a guy operating the sun like a steam engine, deciding who deserved the sun’s glory to shine upon them every […]

When you have a social engagement with someone and you call to ask where they are and they say, “I am en route,” they obviously haven’t even left, right? We all know that one person who continually arrives at the office late and disheveled, tie in one hand, a comb in the other – first […]

Einstein’s Theory of Relativity Think of a drop of water in relation to a puddle in the ground. Then think of that puddle in relation to a lake. Now, think of a lake in relation to the ocean, and the ocean in relation to planet earth. Earth is a fairly big planet yet when compared […]

You can probably think of a few times you’ve said yes to something you didn’t want. For most of us, it was hardwired in our upbringing to be receptive to other people’s needs and that sacrificing for the good of others is a virtue to be sought after and admired. So when the boss hands […]
